Workshop Operative
Location: Abingdon, Oxfordshire
Salary: £13.00 – £15.00 per hour
Hours: 37 hours per week, Monday–Thursday 7:30/8:00am – 4:00/4:30pm, Friday 7:30/8:00am – 12:30/1:00pm
Job Type: Permanent, full-time
Syntech Recruitment are recruiting two Workshop Operatives for a specialist cryogenic engineering company in Abingdon. You’ll work alongside a team of skilled welders building stainless steel, vacuum-insulated pipework for customers in the UK and abroad.
This is a good way into engineering. Some workshop experience helps, but the right attitude and willingness to learn count most.

Workshop Operative Responsibilities
- Cutting and preparing pipe and parts ready for welding
- Cleaning and insulating pipework
- Using mechanical saws, drills, grinders and hand tools
- Working from engineering drawings and sketches
- Supporting the welding team day to day
- Keeping the workshop clean and organised
Workshop Operative Requirements
- Comfortable using hand tools and workshop equipment
- Able to follow drawings and sketches, or willing to learn
- Previous engineering or workshop experience is an advantage
- Reliable, self-motivated and happy working in a team
- Living within around 30 minutes of Abingdon
